Abstract

|
This descriptive study was undertaken in order to identify the house wife´s knowledge and practice about housing safety and home accidents.
The purposive sampling technique was used in the selection of the subjects. The subjects were 713 house wives below 60 years old who had lived in Seoul and Kyungki-Do from October 19 to November 30, 1999.
A questionaire consisting of 20 knowledge of home accidents items and 20 practice of home accidents items. The reliability of the knowledge of home accidents instruments was a=. 8834, practice of home accidents instruments was a=. 9223.
The data analysis was done by SPSS with frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient were done according to the purpose of the study.
The result of the study were as follows
1. Mean score of the knowledge of home accidents was 58±10.96 (maximum 80). Mean score of the practice about home accidents was 61±11.23 (maximum 80). So the level of knowledge items was more higher than´ the level of practice items.
2. Among the knowledge of home accidents according to the type of accident, knowledge of the accident slip was high (3.05), next order was fire, food poisoning. Among the practice about home accidents according to the type of accident, level of practice about food poisoning was high(3.12), next order was fire, slip.
3. Knowledge of home accidents had significant differences according to the demographic characteristics such as houswife´s education level, occupation, income level, experiences of home accidents. Demographic characteristic variables related to pratice significantly were education level, familly pattern, income level.
4. Between the variables, there were
significant positive correlation (r=.662,
p(.01) .
